We the members of the Ball State Ballroom Dance League, subscribing to the policies and regulations of Ball State University, do hereby establish this constitution to govern the matters within our organization.
(a) The name of this organization shall be the Ball State Ballroom Dance League, henceforth referred to as Ball State Ballroom Dance League or BSBDL.
(a) The intent of the BSBDL is to educate its members in the styles of ballroom, latin, and country dancing. It is also to provide vigorous activity, social dancing amongst the students on campus, and to compete in dancesport events. Provided the proper authorization, the BSBDL may provide opportunities for social dancing with groups unaffiliated with Ball State University.
(a) Membership in the BSBDL shall be limited to Ball State University faculty, staff, and students currently enrolled at the University. Absolutely no experience is required to participate.
(b) In order to be classified as a member of the BSBDL, one must be eligible (as outlined above) and do any of the following:
(a) Members of the BSBDL are expected to be courteous and respectful to other people, including fellow members, at all times, both inside and outside of club events.
(a) All members, except BSBDL Officers, shall have their membership re-evaluated each semester and may be revoked by the Executive Council if the member does not meet the criteria outlined in Section I.
(b) Members who disregard any part of the BSBDL Constitution are subject to an investigation of the Executive Council and may have their membership revoked, pending a majority vote by the Executive Council.
(c) Permanent revocation of membership is only possible through the authorization of the Advisor and a majority vote of the Executive Council. If one has their membership permanently revoked, they will never be eligible to be a member of the BSBDL. Permanent revocation of membership may only be lifted provided a majority vote of the Executive Council.
(a) If a member wishes to resign from the organization voluntarily, they shall be asked to submit a letter of resignation to the BSBDL Executive Council.
All official positions in the BSBDL shall be denoted by their title or as a whole (excluding the Advisor) Executive Council, or Officers.
(a) The President shall be the executive spokesperson of the BSBDL. He shall set goals of the BSBDL, provided that they are not counter to the purpose outlined in the constitution, and direct all other officers unless otherwise stated. This includes re-delegation of duties as he deems fit, i.e. if an officer resigns.
(a) The Vice President shall act as a partner with the President in making decisions. He shall organize and establish all committee meetings, manage the committees, and may authorize another to manage certain committees.
(b) All actions done by authorized persons on behalf of the Vice President are the sole responsibility of the Vice President.
(a) The Secretary is responsible for handling student services regarding the BSBDL, such as room reservations. He is also responsible for keeping this constitution up-to-date, managing BSBDL email, and managing BSBDL records.
(a) The Treasurer shall maintain financial records of the BSBDL. Responsibilities include:
(a) The Historian shall ensure that BSBDL social functions are adequately recorded in the medium of his choice. He shall organize and appropriately label all photographs and videos in possession of the BSBDL.
(b) The Historian shall act as a creative consult for BSBDL and also act as the deciding vote if there is ever a tie in votes by the Executive Council.
(a) The Dance Chairman is responsible for instruction of the BSBDL in ballroom, latin, and/or country dancing during every instructional meeting. He is responsible for developing a method of instruction, a curriculum, and is permitted to deputize other teachers.
(b) All actions done by the deputized persons on the behalf of the Dance Chairman are the sole responsibility of the Dance Chairman.
(a) The Advisor will help guide direction to the entire club and inform officers and members of the rules and regulations that need clarification. He shall also provide educational contributions to the club and also act as liaison to the Office of Student Life.
(b) The Advisor must be Ball State University staff or faculty member. He shall mediate all Executive Council disputes that cannot be resolved domestically.
(c) The Advisor is not considered an "Officer" and, as such, need not be elected to his position every term.
The Executive Council, commonly referred to as the "Executive Board" or "Exec Board", is a group of BSBDL Officers that includes the President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, Historian, and Dance Chairman. This council shall oversee all operations of this organization. The members of the Executive Council in descending order of power is as follows:

(a) In order for the elections of officers to take place, 60% of the voting membership must be present and a majority vote is needed to elect any office position except the Advisor.
(b) Elections shall be held in the Fall Semester on the week before the vacation time associated with Thanksgiving, as determined by Ball State University.
(c) All Officers are permitted to campaign in one specific way agreed upon by the candidates involved. If no consensus is reached on the medium of the campaign, the acting President shall decide. To prevent hostile campaigning, all campaign submissions must be authorized by a majority vote of the Executive Council or by the Advisor.
(a) The BSBDL shall not discriminate against any individuals by refusing membership based on age, race, religion, color, sex, sexual orientation, physical or mental disability, or national origin.
(b) Any denotation of the feminine or masculine, unless specifically noted otherwise, shall be treated as a gender-neutral reference.
The rules contained in the current edition of "Robert's Rules of Order" shall govern the BSBDL.
(a) For meetings in which the BSBDL wishes to amend their constitution, 75% of the voting membership must be present and a majority vote is needed to pass the amendment.
(b) Also, the constitution shall be reviewed for revision of every year by the Executive Council of the Ball State Ballroom Dance League. The Executive Council shall decide if any amendments need to occur, but in the event that the constitution needs no revision, a majority vote of the entire Executive Council shall pass the constitution until the next year.
(c) The Executive Board may not change any part of Article VII (Amendments) as part of their annual revision of the BSBDL constitution.
The members of the BSBDL shall receive annual notice of the goals set out by the current administration within the first three meetings of the Fall Semester. The State Of The Union address may be delivered via any of the following mediums:
(a) The BSBDL must have a website given that Ball State University continues to provide a free web hosting service.
(b) The Website must include information regarding all of the following:
(a) The BSBDL Constitution must be available in some form to all members past, present, and future upon request.
(b) The BSBDL Constitution may be displayed in any format or organization provided that it retains the intended meaning and all text is legible. A plain text version of the Constitution must also be readily available if it is put in any other format.
